How to Travel Bali for CHEAP
Let’s talk finances. Not like an accountant though, no offense to any accountants out there.
Research travel seasons and book in advance
Travel during peak seasons like spring break, holidays, and summer are a sure way to spend more than double on flight and lodging prices. If you book a few months out and on a weekday, you could fly across the world and back for under $1000. Sure the layover itinerary may be less efficient, but as someone who loves airports, a world airport tour is never a bad thing.
Go where the currency rate is weaker
Southeast Asia is a great example. In Indonesia, it can cost $4 (70.000 IDR) to eat out at a good restaurant. It was about $275 for a month of lodging through AirBnB and Booking.com. A twenty minute motorbike ride was less than one US dollar. The point is, when the value of your dollar goes farther, you can sustain travel for longer.
Travel with friends
This is a big one. Imagine splitting the price of lodging and transportation in a country where expenses are already incredibly low. Just do it. Obviously because you want to enjoy your friends’ company.
Bargain and compare prices
As a tourist, locals will try to upcharge you. Always look to another vendor or company or two before settling on a price. In Bali, I would use the Grab app to compare ride prices with local taxi drivers. If you’re offered a tour package, take the company’s contact and research prices online. You can also act like you’ll give a different company business and they’ll almost always be willing to lower their prices.
